I have just returned from a very illuminating trip to Israel. In the weeks prior to my trip, I coached myself to keep an open mind, and push myself out of my comfort zone. I have always been an extrovert, and it’s easy for me to meet new people. My challenge recently as for many of us was to turn my attention away from others and towards myself. To Look deep inside my soul and truly think about what I wanted out of each moment of life. All the while knowing the answer is not a constant, but ever changing with each moment.
Forty-three, that’s how many people I shared this emotional roller coaster of a trip with. We brought together different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs, and yet we were all connected by our journey. Sometimes it was a lot to handle, and sometimes I couldn’t imagine what I would have done without the support we created for each other.
Ten days, that’s all it took to convince me that I wanted to delve even deeper within myself. The experiences I had; emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually confirmed what I had already known. We are always ever changing beings, not just our bodies but also our minds. Although it is up to each and every one of us to stay connected with others, it is imperative to stay connected with ourselves.
Questions we should ask ourselves in order to uncover our most inner desires.
• What makes me who I am?
• What do I really want?
• Who do I want to be?
• What does is take for me to get what I want?
So many of these questions were circling my head as I explored Israel. As I got to know the Israelis, I discovered their passion for getting what they want out of life. We can never know what other people are thinking or wanting. What we can know and see are actions! The actions we take will determine the people we are.
Think back to the goals you set at the beginning of this year. Are you satisfied with where you are on this path, or is it time to reboot? Each day is a chance for a fresh start. It’s not one day that will make a difference, but it’s everyday. We don’t have to accomplish our dreams in a single day or action. Each day our actions can bring us closer to realizing our dreams and goals. Five years ago when my yoga journey began, it wasn’t easy, but each day assured that I was on the right path.
It’s not easy to put our dreams into actions, so the question is how much do we want them? To accomplish our goals, our dreams need to crystallize into something real. I believe yoga is a valuable tool towards these goals. Through a deep connection between the body and mind, yoga can help us uncover truths. Not only does yoga allow the muscles of the body to loosen, but it frees up our mind. How many times have we been in a place where we can’t let go of something or tried not to think about what is weighing us down? It all comes back to the breath, allowing the mind to focus on nothing more and nothing less. When we free up our mind through yoga, we allow our mind to create new space to dream of new goals.
Make TODAY your fresh start. Each moment wasted, is a moment not lived. At the end of our days, what we have is our memories. Let’s make some together!
